Commissioner FactFile to Film Four

FilmFour is a British digital television channel that is owned and controlled by Channel Four. FilmFour has lived by many aliases since it's inception with Channel Four. FilmFour has been behind some of the most successful British movies ever made. It is independent forms studios and uniquely British, because it is independent they rely on their own money. They are also specialists in co-production, traditionally contributing 15-25% of an independent film's budget, which is a big help.

FilmFour is also known for breaking the boundaries of average British films with stunning and shocking themes such as drug abuse, racial discrimination and adult relationships. Audiences respond with shock but later can understand the character's motives and usually respect them for it afterwards. Making mostly "kitchen sink dramas" about domestic hardships of working class Britons as realistically as possible. One example of this is Trainspotting as the main characters are heroin addicts.
This theme is very controversial and dazed many of the audience as they couldn't believe that there was a movie about heroin addicts, at least back when it was released, making it a controversial topic people would talk about the next morning, adding more fame to the film. Throughout this entire scene all the whole setting is very dry, dull and tedious, brought on by the calm narration going over the scene adding more melancholy to the film.

Another example of an controversial film is Hunger, with the themes of aspiration and escape, rebellion and oppressive authority. The main characters suffer heavy abuse and assault. These themes would again shock the viewers, leaving them speechless, leaving the film's mark on them. Again something people would talk about in the morning as one of the most hard-hitting films.

FilmFour's ethos is to develop new British talent and be a leader of innovation in the British Film Industry, and this by supporting other independent films by paying 15-25% of their budget. Film four invests £500,000 per film at around 20 films a year. Not only supporting British independent films but also international independent films with places such as Asia, Italy, America and much more, showing that they are open to any films, not just closed to British films.
